Random Pair Programming on Nov 3rd

October 22, 2009

The Nov 3rd meeting will focus on hands-on pair programming. Ginny Hendry led a great random pairing session in Elmhurst, so she’s bringing her act downtown! People of every Ruby level are welcome to come and participate. Please come prepared with the following: a laptop with Ruby and RSpec installed, a basic working knowledge of the Ruby language, a general knowledge of Conway’s Game of Life.

Even if you’ve never programmed in Ruby, you’re welcome to come and observe. You’ll still have fun!

Please use your real name when you RSVP for downtown ChicagoRuby meetings. Reason: We are required to give a list of all attendees to the security desk prior to the meeting. If the name on your ID doesn’t the match the name on the RSVP list, then Aon security will not let you in the building. Sorry for the inconvenience, but those are the rules of the Aon Building.

Multiple Pairing Stations on Oct 17th

We accept pair piloting and pair policing. Why is pair programming controversial?

Ginny Hendry will take us through a pair programming exercise that is similar to a coding dojo except multiple people will pair at multiple workstations simultaneously. Come on out and try it even if you’ve never paired before. This is a great opportunity to learn!

Be sure to drop by Meetup for the location and to RSVP. See you there!

Thank you Sean Cribbs for sharing the latest news on Radiant, the Rails-based CMS that powers this site and many others. Sean joined us via iChat from North Carolina, saving himself the inconvenience of air travel and security inspection shoe removal.

Calling Remote Presenters
Now that we have a couple of these under our hat (the first was with Wolfram Arnold) we’re ready to get more aggressive. If you have a presentation topic that is relevant to our group, and if you are a resident of planet Earth, dash an email to organizers at chicagoruby dot org so we can talk about scheduling a presentation. What dates are available? Check our calendar for a current answer.

We look forward to hearing from you!
