February 2008: Metromix on Rails

Metromix: From J2EE to Rails

Metromix was originally part of Tribune Interactive. The app has been completely re-designed with Ruby on Rails, and it is now being deployed to multiple cities across the USA.

At our Feb 16, 2008 meeting, Evan Petrie, Senior Developer of Metromix, will present the technology behind the app and discuss the challenges & rewards of bringing Ruby on Rails into a J2EE organization. Tim Wise (Director of Technology at Metromix) will also be on hand to answer questions.

Full House in January

Members of ChicagoRuby.org packed the meeting room for a full house in January 2008. The DeForest Group meeting space works great with WiFi and plenty of tables. Thank you Lee DeForest!

Again we thank our January speakers: Matt Polito, Bobby Jacob, Josh Starcher, and Mike Wagner.

January is the month we bid farewell to Victor Hong. Victor is moving Boston and we wish him well. Mike Wagner has agreed to step up and take Victor’s co-organizer spot. Thanks Mike!

Next meeting: Sat, Feb 16, 2008 at 3pm. Metromix will head the agenda. See you then!
