Lunch 2.0 @ Google Chicago

November 01, 2007

The entire ChicagoRuby.org group is invited to lunch at Google.

Concerns: TANSTAAFL , and the domain lunch20.com is registered to a guy with a Yahoo.com email address. See Whois. So… is this a clever joke? Tons of hungry folks descending on Google’s office for lunch as a payback for April Fools day jokes? I don’t know.

So I shared my concern with Cindy P. Burton, SF programmer and organizer of the lunch (or should I say “lunch”). Continue reading for her (unedited) reply…

Hi Ray,

Wow I didn’t even think it could be construed as a joke but you are so right to be suspicious!

tychay@yahoo.com is Terry Chay, one of the founders of Lunch 2.0 . He’s a friend of mine who codes for Tagged. Lunch 2.0 is a community event so it isn’t really owned by anyone. He was the one who suggested I see if anyone in Chicago wanted to host a Lunch 2.0.

I’ll CC him in on this and maybe he can reply and make things more legit :)

Also, Google setup that email address for RSVP’s. You could email that address and RSVP and they will probably reply with a confirmation sometime today or tomorrow. That ought to be further proof that it’s real too.

Just make sure you say that people have to RSVP by email to get in. I agree that tons of hungry folks showing up and thinking they can get in would suck. As long as they are on the list though, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Cindy (Phung) Burton

P.S. Here is Terry’s blog and the first blog post has a picture of me even. http://terrychay.com/blog/.

We throw a lot of events in SF :)

Update from Terry Chay

Some time later I received these links in an update from Terry Chay, Lunch 2.0 organizer.
