• [30 min] Google Maps and Rails Apps presented by Michael Gurley. The presenter will show how he integrated Google Maps into a live Rails-driven application.

• [60 min] Unstructured Hackfest A great chance to experiment with the stuff we learn that day. Bring your rails-equipped laptop!

October Meeting Recap

Special thanks to Obtiva Corporation and Ryan Platte for providing a great place for ChicagoRuby.org to meet.

Victor Hong led the group in an examination of Hobo. Hobo accelerates the creation of views in Rails apps.

Next, Wil Chung moderated a discussion on ways we can make our Rails projects more successful. It’s not just about Rails. Many best practices can be applied to other languages and frameworks as well. Ideas discussed: test driven development, behavior driven development, and writing clear specifications.

October Agenda

For the October meeting, ChicagoRuby.org is doing something slightly different while still covering multiple levels of Ruby on Rails expertise. Here’s our October 20, 2007 agenda:

• Hobo – an extension that increases the speed of Rails development even further. Victor Hong will present this topic.

• When Rails Fails – What happens when Rails fails, and what can we do about it? We’ll overview a few high-profile Rails failures, and we’ll discuss ways to apply lessons learned to future projects. Drop by the discussion on Google Groups if you’d like to participate before the meeting.
